I am originally from Kentucky but have been teaching Spanish on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for 10 years. I have taught a total of more than 30 years. I was a 911 police department communications dispatcher for about 10 years in Indiana, Texas and Kentucky. I am the oldest of the teachers at my school but probably the teacher that loves technology the most. I adore my students and they help me keep updated on phone and computer technology. This year has been really fun for me because my youngest grandson is a student at our school.
Hi, I'm Lary Blodgett. I am NOT a Spanish teacher--rather, I'm working with the Spanish teacher on this project. I taught history for 29 years (24 of them in my current school district). Then, I became a technology integration specialist--my specialty is helping other teachers use more technology. I've been doing that job since 2006.--which means that by the end of this year, I'll have 35 years of teaching in. I have a wife, four daughters, and four grandkids--a fifth will arrive some time in May.
I'm very fortunate in that all of my daughters live within about a half hour drive from my home. (the youngest, age 20, still lives at home,.) Although I only own about an acre and a half--I think of my self as having a small farm. I have to cut about 10 cords of wood per year to heat my home, and I have two horses, which have to be fed, cleaned up after, etc., every day--so, in addition to teaching I am always working around the "farm"--it's worth it, in that the one horse gets ridden a lot--once a week or more, (I went on a 13 mile trail ride yesterday.) and the other one gets ridden maybe once or twice a month. One thing I notice here is how not only the language, but the units of measure need translation. Lets see, 1.5 acre = 0.015 175 711 584 caballeria, 10 cord of wood=8feet*4feet*4feet=1280 square feet=118.915 891 2 square meter 13 miles =20.9 kilometers There, does that have more meaning to you? You might also find it interesting that my Christian faith is very important to me, but, unlike the Catholic church,--I'm a protestant--but, my church isn't even affiliated with any other church. That is, we are entirely independent--the pastor founded the church based around the way he understands the Bible,--the church has no official "membership"--if you attend, that's good, we're happy to have you, but, if you leave and start attending somewhere else---we'll miss you, but, that's okay too. My name is Josh Hindmarsh and I teach English at Perdue School in Saskatchewan, Canada. This is my second year teaching - I was in Perdue last year as well:). This semester is the first year that our school has offered a Spanish class which I am currently teaching. I lived in Ecuador for a year (8 years ago) so it has been nice for me to "re-learn" a lot of Spanish I have forgotten! I am hoping that my students can use technology as a tool to help them learn about a new culture and language; I think that conversing with students from another country will enhance this experience.
Hi, I’m Cassie Allen Orr and I am from Arkansas in the United States. I have lived here all my life. I’ve taught Spanish at Highland High School for the past nine years. I also try to integrate technology as much as I can, and I have started trying some project based learning in my classes. Our school will be a new tech school next year, and I am part of the first wave of teachers who will be transitioning to that model. Right now we offer only two years of Spanish at our school. This year I have smaller groups of students who are taking Spanish II, and I thought it would be a good time to try the digital story project with them. I thought it would be a great opportunity for these students to practice their Spanish with other teens around the world. We have enjoyed hearing from you all so far, and we look forward to hearing more about you all!
HI, my name is Susan Dreger and I'm originally from Saskatchewan, Canada. I have been living in Catalonia, Spain for the past 20 years! I've taught both primary and secondary students over the years. At the moment I'm in a high school teaching English, however, I try to integrate technology as much as I can. This year I have three smaller groups which have quite a good level of English. I thought it could be a great chance for these students to do a project in order to meet other teens around the world, share some stories and practise English, ALL at the same time. Oh, and learn some new technologies too! I look forward to hearing from you all, teachers and students!
